THE JOURNEY TO BECOMING A PEACE OFFICER

The journey of becoming a peace officer is no easy feat and takes hard work, dedication, commitment and a unique desire to protect and serve.  Here we provide an overview of the process, which will take at least 18 months to complete.

APPLICATION/TESTINGApplicants must complete a series of tests, evaluations, and interviews during this phase of the hiring process.
THE POLICE ACADEMYHired recruits will be sent to a law enforcement academy to learn the basic skills of a police officer.
THE FTO PROGRAMUpon successful completion of the academy, recruits are trained and tested consistently under the guidance of a field training officer.
PROBATIONOnce a trainee has successfully completed the FTO program, they will provide the duties of a police officer under the monitoring of department supervisors.
