PRESS RELEASE RE: November 15th IHART TOWN HALL

The Vallejo Police Department (VPD) will host a community town hall event on November 15, 2023 at the Florence Douglas Senior Center to give residents and stakeholders an opportunity to provide input on the final selection for the Integrated Health and Resource Team (IHART). VPD is also inviting local artists in the community to submit ideas for the IHART logo.

IHART will be a mobile crisis response unit that will provide trauma-informed crisis response and linkages to mental/behavioral health- and social services-related calls, reducing the role of police and improving outcomes for individuals experiencing crises. VPD hopes to divert 70 percent of 5150 (mental health-related) calls to the unit, removing potential triggers and escalation risks by replacing police with crisis workers, a social worker, and medical professionals to provide linkages to services and individuals with lived experience.  IHART will also be equipped to provide referrals to mental health care providers, inpatient referrals, outpatient services, homelessness service providers, shelters and housing navigation, substance abuse disorder providers, and connections to other basic needs, follow up care, and community supports.

In July, VPD released a Request for Proposals to solicit bids from local and national vendors to provide services and staff listed above. The VPD received three proposals. Both an internal VPD and a stakeholder review of each bid are complete. VPD will now present to the community, through this town hall, summaries of each proposal and information on the potential vendors to solicit the public’s input and feedback.
