Interim Chief Jason TaInterim Chief Jason Ta

Chief Jason Ta has extensive experience in law enforcement spanning almost 30 years, with 14 years of experience as a police commander. Chief Ta started his law enforcement career with the San Jose Police Department in 1995. Chief Ta has experience in a variety of assignments including patrol, undercover operations combating Asian organized crime, field training, Community Service Officers (CSO’s), School Resource Officers (SRO’s), Crime Prevention Unit, Traffic Enforcement Unit (Motors), Gang Investigations Unit, Robbery Unit, Sexual Assault Investigations Unit, Missing Persons Unit, and Special Projects. Chief Ta was a founding member of San Jose’s Performance Analysis Detail, an internal auditing team formed decades before police reform initiatives.

Chief Ta rose to the rank of Police Captain before coming to Vallejo in 2021 as a Deputy Chief. One of his primary tasks was overseeing Vallejo’s efforts in completing and implementing 45 police reform recommendations in collaboration with the California Department of Justice. In 2022, Chief Ta was appointed Vallejo’s Interim Chief of Police.

Chief Ta has worked as a collaborative member of Vallejo’s and San Jose’s Leadership team to reduce crime through a combination of prevention, intervention, reintegration, and enforcement. He believes in cooperative interagency collaboration to solve major problems related to public safety. He has a proven track record in crime reduction, police reform, and community policing. Chief Ta is dedicated to creating and strengthening police-community partnerships that help solve challenges facing today’s communities and law enforcement teams.

Chief Ta has Bachelor of Science in Administration of Justice and a Masters of Business Administration in Strategic Leadership. Chief Ta is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy (FBINA) session 267.
