Bob Knight, Deputy Chief, Vallejo Police Department

Deputy Chief Bob Knight is a Vallejo native who is deeply grateful for and humbled by the opportunity to serve the community he grew up in. DC Knight attended Vallejo schools and graduated from St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School.
Deputy Chief Knight has been a City of Vallejo employee for 30 years. He began his career at the Vallejo Police Department as a volunteer Police Explorer in 1991 at the age of 14 and was the first Vallejo PD Cadet hired in 1995 when the program was created. In 1999, Bob graduated from the Oakland Police Academy and became a full-time police officer in Vallejo. He has worked a variety of assignments during his time as an officer through the rank of police captain. He has worked in Patrol, police explorer advisor, Crime Suppression Unit, Asset Forfeiture Unit, DEA task force, honor guard, field training officer, Crime Reduction Team supervisor, internal affairs sergeant, and Professional Standards Division Commander. DC Knight was a 10 year member of the SWAT team holding positions as team leader and later as the SWAT Commander. In 2022, Knight was selected to lead the department’s police reform efforts when the CalDOJ, Collaborative Compliance task force was established. He was ultimately tasked with overseeing the department’s Administration Bureau as a captain before being promoted to Deputy Chief of Police in 2023.
Deputy Chief Knight is the vice-president of the Vallejo Police Activities League (PAL). He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sacramento State University in Sociology and is a graduate of both the California POST Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (SLI) as well as the Drucker School of Management’s Executive Leadership Institute (ELI).
