VALLEJO, CA - On May 5, 2024, at approximately 7:30 P.M., the Vallejo Police Department (VPD) received a call for service regarding a shooting in the 1300 block of North Camino Alto.
When VPD Patrol officers arrived at the scene, witnesses told the officers that a family member transported the victim to a local hospital. The officers responded to the hospital and were informed by staff members that the male victim had suffered at least one gunshot wound and was being medically treated.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the male succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
VPD Patrol officers observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect's vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. An officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to yield, which initiated a vehicle pursuit. The pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle became disabled due to a collision. Clifton Chandler Jr., a 38-year-old male from Vallejo, and a female passenger were immediately detained. During the pursuit, a firearm was thrown from the vehicle and found near the collision.
The Vallejo Police Department Detective Division took over the investigation and identified Clifton Chandler Jr. as the suspect responsible for this homicide. Clifton Chandler Jr. was arrested and booked into the Solano County Jail for murder.
On May 8, 2024, the Solano County District Attorney's Office charged Clifton Chandler Jr. with murder based on the detective's investigation.
